Susan Diane Kemp

On June 14, 2023, our wife, mom, and MeeMaw, Susan Diane Lovelace Kemp, passed away at Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a long illness. Her life was encompassed by her love for her family, friends, UT Vols, camping, and horseback riding. She was retired from the Procter and Gamble Manufacturing company after many years of service. She was a member of the East Union Baptist Church where she served in the youth department and with the kitchen and hospitality committees until her health declined. She was married to the love of her life and best friend, Wayne Kemp, for 49 years 9 months and 14 days. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 1, 2023. Susan was known for her kind and gentle spirit. She was the most selfless wife and mother. Susan lived her life devoted to her husband and family. She had a passion for cooking and was known for her southern dishes. She had no greater joy than spending time with her family.


She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Kemp; children, Brian Kemp (Ginger) and Leigh Ann Gay (Matt) and her grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life: Will Kemp, Eli and Luke Gay. SuSu also leaves behind Jenny Israel Maynard who she loved like a daughter. She is survived by her sister Cathy Newman (Gil). She is preceded in death by her parents, William Farrow Lovelace, Carolyn Lovelace Crowder and Bud Crowder; her brother, David Michael Lovelace SR. and her sister, Nancy Lovelace.


Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM on Saturday June 17, 2023 with the funeral to follow at 2:00 PM at East Union Baptist Church, 2244 Beech Bluff Road, Jackson TN with Bro Jeff Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 25 Pleasant Hill Road in Jackson. Pallbearers for the service will be, Will Kemp, Eli Gay, Luke Gay, Kyle Maynard, David Lovelace Jr., John Lovelace and Bobby Kirk. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or East Union Baptist Church Elkins House Fund.
