Judi C. Garner

Mrs. Judi C. Garner passed away peacefully at home on January 27 at 1pm, after an extended illness. Judi was born on April 22, 1937 in Nashville, TN where she spent her childhood. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Edwin and Marjory Cochran. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John Garner of Jackson TN, her son David Garner, daughter-in-law Missy, her granddaughter Ali Garner, and her step-granddaughter Phelan Goble, all of Huntersville, TN. Judi is also survived by her sisters Sherri Colucci of Middleboro, Massachusetts, and Kaye Tomlin (husband Richard) of Alexandria, La, and her brother Donald Cochran of Ashland City, TN, as well as several nieces and nephews. Judi graduated from Hillsboro High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She then continued her education with a Master’s Degree in Education from Middle Tennessee State University. In addition, she later attended courses at the University of Alabama and Memphis State University gaining hours toward a Doctoral Degree. Judi had a distinguished teaching career of thirty-nine years, with over thirty of those years being served in Madison County, TN at Denmark Elementary and Malesus Elementary from which she retired in 2002, and continued substitute teaching for some years after retiring. Judi was a member of Meridian Baptist Church on Harts Bridge Rd. in Jackson, TN where she loved to sing and was a member of the choir. Also, while at the University of Tennessee, Judi was selected to become one of the UT Singers, which was a great honor that she cherished. Funeral services will be held at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home, 403 E. Baltimore, Jackson TN 38301. Visitation will be from 11am until 1pm Monday January 31 with the funeral service being held at 1pm. Larry Kirk will be officiating.
