Funeral services for Jennie Ruth Allen Nanney will be held at 1 pm Friday, November 3, 2023, at Malesus Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Cagle officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 11am – 1 pm at the church before the service. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.

Jennie passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 31, 2023, at Charter Senior Living of Jackson, Tennessee.

She was born in Madison County, Tennessee to the late Robert S. and Lillie Mae Allen.

Jennie was proud to be the first person to graduate from North Side High School in 1944. She retired from Tennessee Textiles in March 1989. After her retirement, she enjoyed working part-time for the Jackson Madison County School System in the Food Service Department for several years. She was married to Arthur Nanney on July 26, 1947, at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church for 47 years.

She was an active member of Malesus Baptist Church for over 65 years. During that time she taught the Gleaners and Golden Rule Sunday School Classes, sang in the choir, and was the church clerk from June 1989 -August 2013.

Jennie loved to visit shut-ins and share her teacake cookies and cakes. Many people will remember her "Murr" chicken. Her energy and desire to serve others will be remembered by everyone who knew her. She loved to work in her yard and share her flowers with others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Nanney; her parents; brothers, Frank Allen and George Allen; her sister, Jannie Allen; and nephew, Brad Allen.

Murr is survived by a daughter, Janet Cain and son-in-law, Gene Cain; grandson, Michael Cain(Ashley), twin grandsons, Levi and Micah Cain; a sister-in-law, Margaret Anne Nanney and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Malesus Baptist Church Children's Ministry, St. Jude Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank the workers at Charter Senior Living for their compassionate care over the last 2 ½ years and for the staff at Tennessee Quality Care.
