Gertrude E Kougias

Funeral Mass for Gertrude E. Kougias will be held at 11 am Friday, December 17, 2021, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Graham officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 9:30-10:30 am with Rosary from 10:30 am until service time. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kougias passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021. She was born in Jackson, TN and was a parishioner of Saint Mary's Catholic Church for many years. As a young U.S. Army Air Corps wife living in Jackson in 1944, she participated in the Woman's Division of the Sixth War Loan drive while her husband, the late Colonel Kougias, was a prisoner of war. Many years later as an U.S. Air Force wife, Mrs. Kougias was a dedicated Red Cross Volunteer at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois assisting military and civilian medical professionals as they cared for injured military personnel returning to the United States from Vietnam wartime battlefields. Gertrude Kougias strongly believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Mrs. Kougias was a devoted wife and mother who is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Jim Butler Academic Angels program of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Jackson which provides funds for education of Haitian children at the Catholic School in Haiti.
