Dwayne Buck

Funeral services for Mr. Dwayne Buck, age 83, will be held at 2 pm Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 12pm-2pm before the service. 

Dwayne Buck was born June 27, 1941 in Madison County, TN. His parents were the late R.D. and Rachel Cornelia Franks Buck. Dwayne's parents had not decided on a name for him when he was born and an aunt jokingly suggested they name him "Pedro". His two year old sister, however, could not pronounce "Pedro" and called him "Pego", a nickname that stayed with him throughout his life. 

Dwayne was educated in Madison Co. schools and soon after began working with his father as a bulldozer operator, first, with Stanford and Buck and later with R.D. Buck and Son. Working outdoors and operating a bulldozer was, as he said, "All I ever wanted to do" and he did it well.

After the death of his father, he established Dwayne Buck Custom Dozer Work from which he retired after more than 50 years.

Dwayne was married to Mary Kay Roberts on June 27, 1969 and they celebrated 55 years together in 2024. In 1973 they welcomed their daughter Teresa Diane, and she quickly had him wrapped around her finger. Teresa gave him the gift of 3 precious grandchildren who made him so very proud and with whom he shared a love of Memphis Grizzlies basketball.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; sister, Kara Baughn; brother in laws, Don Jones and David Russom; and sister in law Louise Buck. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Buck; daugther, Teresa Kee; grandchildren, Evan Parker Kee, Abigail (Abby) Elizabeth Kee, and Grant Hudson Kee; sisters, Louise Jones, Lisa Currin, Carolyn Russom, Myra Morris; and one brother, Gary Buck. 

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
