Mrs. Carolyn P. Vatcher, age 85, passed away on January 27, 2025, in Jackson, TN. She was born on November 20, 1939, in Nashua, NH to the late Donald H. Davis and Dorothy Johnson Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frederick M. Vatcher; sisters, Elizabeth Trombly, Jean Crocker; brother, Preston Davis.
Mrs. Vatcher was a homemaker, a horse lover and a barn keeper.
She grew up in Amherst NH, training and riding horses all around the outskirts of town where she loved taking the neighborhood kids on horse and buggy rides. By the age of 16 she was using her talent to give riding lessons, as well.
She married her high school sweetheart and became an Air Force wife traveling from Biloxi, MS to Sacramento, CA to Peru IN, just to mention a few, with the last station being Blytheville, AR AFB.
While her husband was active in the military, overseas, she raised her girls to carry on her passion of, not just riding horses but how to do so proficiently, in both Western and English styles. Every weekend, during show season, they were participating in horse shows somewhere, in whichever state they happened to live in, at the time. Not just your average equestrian, Carolyn was proud of her accomplishment of obtaining the Indiana State Championship in Western Pleasure. She always made sure the weekend was successful, bringing home trophies and ribbons to add to the Awards Room.
The real light of her life was her grandson, Destin. She loved taking him to his Taekwondo lessons, where he earned a 2nd degree black belt, which she was so proud of. She was so excited to participate in the Lead Line class, with him, where she would proudly lead that grinning 2 year old around on his pony. They brought home many blue ribbons and endless memories.
Another passion of Carolyn’s was saving animals. Many orphaned critters: squirrels, racoons, kittens, an injured baby deer, and even a miniature horse named Oreo, were bottle fed and raised by “Elly Mae”. She never turned down a helpless animal and her veterinarian knew to call Carolyn if a foster home was needed. On one occasion she stopped traffic on a busy bridge to rescue a baby racoon that was on the road!
In her later years, the Lift Wellness Center in Jackson, was her “happy place”. She loved attending the Aqua Aerobics classes and would boast of how magical the water felt, making her feel like a kid again. She was the biggest advertisement the gym could have and encouraged and motivated every person she saw. If someone even thought about looking sad, she would make sure that they had a smile on their face no matter what.
Mrs Vatcher, also, was an avid Caitlin Clark fan. She loved watching her amazing talent on the basketball court, as a Hawkeye and as an Indiana Fever player. It made her day when Caitlin would make one of her signature 3 pointers.
Mrs, Vatcher is survived by her daughters, Holly Trowbridge (Tony), Meg Hargett (Danny); Grandson, Destin; Sister, Peggy Trombly and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Redemption Road Horse Rescue. Donors can contact Patty Simpson at 615-289-0777.
A memorial service for Mrs. Vatcher will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Potts Chapel Methodist Church in Beech Bluff, TN. The family encourage western attire, be worn to the service, so cowboy boots, hats and Wrangler jeans are encouraged!
