Betty L Thomas

Betty Lorraine Gaines Thomas, age 93, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at the TN Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN. She was born on December 28, 1929 in Springfield, IL to the late Vester and Dorothy Gaines. She is preceded in death by her husband, Budde Myrl Thomas; brother, Bill Bell; sister, Judith Cross, and her son-in-law, Ricky Kent.

Mrs. Thomas graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, IL in 1947.

She attended Forest Heights United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN and served on many committees through the years. She loved participating in the annual craft bazaar by tole painting items, and cooking. She loved to knit and made many shawls for cancer patients at the hospital.

She is survived by her two daughters, Scherry G. Proctor (Morris) of Bartlett, TN, Lori D. Kent of Humboldt, TN; three grandchildren, Eric Overton (Lacey), Teresa Frazier (Brett), Tracy Bourland (Josh); great grandchildren, Cody Katz, Ema Overton, Levi Overton, Brett Frazier, Jr., Isaac Bourland, Amelia Bourland, and Josephine Bourland.

A memorial service for Mrs. Thomas will be held at 11 am Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home North Chapel, with Pastor Drew Brewer officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 10am-11am before the service. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of West Tennessee or Forest Heights United Methodist Church in Jackson.
